Here’s the truth my love, AI is not the one to choose for creating your site. It designs with a mix of your competitors, which becomes not a reflection of you. It has no strategy, no taste, no clue who your dream client is, and no idea how your business actually feels in the room. Sure, you can give you a site in twenty minutes.
But it won’t sell for you, it won’t sound like you, and it definitely won’t have your dream clients sliding into your inquiry form.
Let’s get into why.
Technically? Yes. Strategically though, that’s where it gets wonky.
AI is a program built for speed. It pulls from data that already exists on the internet, which means when you prompt it to build your wedding florist site, your reiki site, your tattoo portfolio, it scrapes what your competitors have already done and Frankensteins it together. You end up with a mod-podge of every other site in your industry, dressed up in your brand colors.
That’s not authentic. That’s not yours. And it’s definitely not the thing that’s going to make someone stop scrolling and think, she’s the one.
It comes down to one word: strategy.
The thing about AI is that you can’t just go in all willy nilly and just ask it to make a site. You need to give it lots of direction, and basically “prime” it. You have to tell it who to be, which is more work for you. A website NEEDS strategy to be successful. You also need a designer that knows that the user experience is the foundation it needs to be built on, while also having a back and forth conversation.
AI doesn’t know your business and it for sure as hell doesn’t know how your ideal client thinks. It doesn’t know that your about page is where most of your inquiries decide whether to book. It doesn’t know that your offer needs to be the third section, not the seventh, because your audience is burnt out and won’t scroll that far.
A real designer does. That’s the whole point of hiring one.
Here’s what AI literally cannot ask you, because it doesn’t know to:
These are the questions that actually build a site that converts. AI skips them and jumps straight to “here’s a hero section, here’s a services grid, here’s a contact form.” Cute. Useless.
This is the question every potential client asks me on a discovery call. “My friend made a site on Wix in two hours, so…”
Here’s the math nobody talks about. To get AI to build something halfway decent, you have to prime it. That means telling it to act like a website designer. Then telling it your brand voice, your offer structure, your ideal client, your color palette, your competitors, your goals, your funnel logic. Then re-prompting it fifteen times when it gives you something that looks like every other coach site on the internet.
That’s hours of work you’re doing, and you still don’t have strategy, because YOU don’t know what strategy to have. That’s why you were looking for a designer in the first place, duh.
A website is not just pretty pictures stacked on a page. A real site needs:
AI hands you a file and waves goodbye. A designer hands you a business asset and stays in your corner.
Look, I’m not anti-AI. I use it for brainstorming subject lines, polishing rough copy, drafting boring admin emails. It’s great for tasks that don’t require a soul.
Use AI for:
Don’t use AI for: the website that’s supposed to be your storefront, your salesperson, and your first impression all at once. That’s not the place to cut corners, my love.
Find a designer who treats your site like a strategy project, not a template swap. Someone who asks about your dream client, your offers, your story, and the energy you want people to feel the second they land on your home page.
You deserve a site that calls in the right people on repeat, not one that’s quietly attracting every red flag client within a hundred-mile radius. A site that you’re proud to show off. A site that sells for you while you sleep.
That’s the difference between a website and a website.
